5 Ballplayers Defying the Boring Label on Satellite TV

If you ever come across some big sports fans that dislike baseball, you'll probably hear the charge that the sport is ‘too boring' or too slow. While it is undeniable that the game can drag along at times, it is usually when a contest has been blown open by one team or when the game itself is meaningless. The same charge could be leveled at football and basketball games. However, watching the prime-time baseball players these days is anything but boring. Check out these five exciting ballplayers on satellite TV networks.

1. Ichiro Suzuki. Like Madonna and Cher, Ichiro lost the need for a last name a long time ago. One of the all time great Japanese players, Ichiro quickly rose to the ranks in the United States and began making analysts wonder what could have been, had he spent his whole career in America. Could he have challenged the all-time hit record held by Pete Rose? It doesn't seem out of the question at all, considering how he already broke the single-season hit record and regularly has well over 200 knocks per season. 2. Torii Hunter. It's no coincidence that most of the game's most exciting players are outfielders, as the combination of speed and power makes for thrilling moments on a baseball field. Watching Hunter bat is an event, but watching him track down a fly ball in center field is even better. How many home runs has he robed over the years? There may be too many to count, but no batter feels safe until the ball safely lands in the stands.

3. Mark Teixeira. While not much of a showboat, Teixeira has always let his play speak for itself. He strikes a somewhat Ruthian figure in the batter's box, but when he patrols the area around first base, he flashes his cat-like reflexes and remarkable leaping ability. A well-deserved Gold Glove in 2009 has not slowed down Tex a bit. Of course, if you add his clutch power hitting and penchant for the long ball, you have one of the game's most exciting players. 4. Jose Reyes. The kid with the million-dollar smile has finally returned to the Mets and gotten back to his old tricks. Reyes is pure excitement on the base paths, and every time he makes contact he has a chance of getting a hit. Of course, his athletic ability is only partially showcased on the offensive end; his acrobatic play at shortstop has endeared him to a new generation of Mets fans.

5. Tim Lincecum. While it is hard to excite as a pitcher, Tim Lincecum's power approach is as thrilling as it can get. Pitching is the most offensive form of defense you will find in sports. Writers often describe Lincecum as ‘unfair' in his domination, but as a fan you will marvel at one of the game's most exciting players.
