What does the name New York Mets mean?
someone told me "Mets" means metropolitan, but why is name?
The owners ultimately selected "Metropolitan Baseball Club of New York" or "Mets" partly because it was closely related to the existing club name "New York Metropolitan Baseball Club, Inc., in part because he went back to "Metropolitans", a name historically significant by a team of New York at the beginning of the American Association from 1883 to 1887, and partly because its brevity, of course, fit into the headlines. The name was received with broad approval among fans and media.
